Kumbor is a seaside settlement on the Herceg Novi riviera, set along the narrow strait where the open Adriatic meets the inner Bay of Kotor. It is best known today as the home of Portonovi, a substantial luxury waterfront development built on the site of a former naval base, anchored by a One&Only branded resort and a smart marina. The resort sits at the sheltered entrance to Boka Bay, framed by mountains and pine, and brings fine dining, a spa and a private beach to a stretch of coast that was, until recently, far quieter. Yet beyond the marina, Kumbor still retains much of its traditional village character, with ordinary homes, local life and a long-standing reputation for good seafood. The strait's strong currents keep the water here notably clean and clear, and the village has long been valued for its fish restaurants and waterside konobas. Kumbor suits a broad range of visitors: those drawn by the polish and amenities of Portonovi, and others simply after a calm base with easy swimming and authentic local dining. It is quieter than Herceg Novi itself but close enough to dip into the town's Old Town, markets and evening life whenever you want a change of pace. Kumbor's position makes it one of the more convenient bases on this side of the bay. Herceg Novi's centre is only around ten minutes away by car, and Igalo's spas are similarly close. The marina is a natural launch point for boat trips out to Mamula island, the Blue Cave and the Luštica beaches. Tivat airport is roughly forty-five minutes to an hour by road, while Kotor lies around forty to fifty minutes around the bay. With Portonovi continuing to expand its hotel, residences and marina offering, Kumbor in 2026 sits at an interesting meeting point of traditional village and modern resort.
