Morinj is tucked into the innermost green corner of the Bay of Kotor, on the western shore between Risan and the Kamenari ferry crossing, where cold freshwater springs rise from beneath the mountains and meet the salt of the Adriatic. The result is an unusually lush, wooded landscape of streams, chestnut trees and old stone watermills, with the small Morinj river threading down past them to the sea. It is one of the bay's most peaceful spots, valued for natural beauty, clear swimming and exceptional food rather than crowds or nightlife. The village is best known for Ćatovića Mlini, one of Montenegro's most celebrated restaurants, set among the restored stone mills of the Ćatović family beside the running water. The mills have belonged to the family for more than 200 years, and the restaurant marked 30 years in 2024. Geese and peacocks wander the green grounds while the kitchen turns out grilled and roasted Adriatic fish, seafood, smoked Njeguški pršut, homemade cheese and bread; reservations are essential in summer and it is reachable by car or by boat. Down on the shore, the pebbled Morinj beach sits in a shaded wooded bend with a relaxed beach bar; the water here stays noticeably cool even in August thanks to the underwater freshwater springs feeding the bay. Morinj suits couples, food lovers and anyone after off-the-beaten-path tranquillity within easy reach of the sights. It sits roughly halfway between Herceg Novi and Kotor, each around 20 to 25 minutes away by car, with Perast and Risan even closer along the shore. Tivat airport is approximately 35 to 40 minutes' drive. Come for a long, slow lunch among the mills, a swim in the spring-fed shallows, and the rare sense of having found a quiet, green pocket of the bay all to yourself.
