Meljine is a peaceful coastal settlement on the Herceg Novi riviera, set between Igalo and Zelenika just outside the town centre. Its defining landmark is the Lazaret, a historic complex begun by the Venetians in 1732 as a quarantine station and hospital guarding the entrance to the Bay of Kotor, later expanded under Austro-Hungarian rule. The handsome old buildings, with their imperial-era architecture and maritime past, still anchor the waterfront, and part of the complex has been restored as the five-star Lazure Hotel and Marina, with berths for visiting yachts and a smart seafront promenade. The town's modern hospital nearby continues the site's centuries-old role as the medical heart of the area. For visitors, Meljine offers easy swimming and a relaxed, residential feel. Lazaret beach, beside the historic complex, is the main spot for sunbathing and a dip, and waterfront promenades run along the shore with open views across the bay toward the Luštica peninsula and the open Adriatic. It is a quieter, more local-feeling base than central Herceg Novi, yet only minutes away, which suits travellers who want calm evenings within walking or short driving distance of restaurants, bars and beaches. Dining leans to fresh fish, grilled seafood and Mediterranean cooking, with options ranging from simple konobas to the polished restaurants at the marina. Meljine's central position on the riviera makes it a practical hub. Herceg Novi old town, with its squares, sea fortress and the nearby Savina Monastery, is just a few minutes west, while the spa town of Igalo and Zelenika sit either side. Heading east, the coast road reaches Bijela, Risan, Perast and UNESCO-listed Kotor in well under an hour. From Tivat airport, the quickest approach is the Kamenari–Lepetane ferry across the Verige Strait followed by a short coastal drive; by road around the bay the airport is about an hour away.
