These addresses are spread across a kilometre and a half of Tivat, which means the town's two characters are both in reach: the centre, with its market, park and seafront cafés, and the more open shoreline beyond it, where the beaches widen and the sports courts begin. Tivat has been receiving guests since the late 1950s, longer than most of this coast, and that history shows in the mature pine plantings, the wide terraces and the size of the bathing areas along the stretch.
The coastal path east passes the Kalimanj fishing harbour and Kalardovo before reaching the sandy neck out to Ostrvo cvijeća, the wooded peninsula holding the monastery of St. Michael the Archangel — an easy hour's walk with swimming stops on the way. West, the promenade runs to Porto Montenegro, its yacht pontoons, waterfront restaurants and museum submarines. Inland from the town the Solila salt pans draw flamingos on migration, and a road climbs to the stone village of Gornja Lastva and the Vrmac ridge above it. Tivat's airport is five minutes away, Kotor twenty, and boats leave the town quay each morning for Perast and the Blue Cave.
