Kostanjica is a small coastal town in Boka Kotorska (Montenegro), about 15 kilometers from Herceg Novi, about 30 from Kotor. According to Risan and Kotor (see Risan, Perast, Kotor) there is only one immediate neighbor - Morinj (see that). There is no other neighbor, because between Kostanjica and the nearest Kamenari, there is the Strait of Verige, where the line of the Gulf turns by about 90 degrees, and it is not inhabited. Kostanjica got its name from the chestnut, i.e. sweet chestnut (Castanea sativa), since the forests of this fruit-bearing noble tree extend above the settlement - from the coast to Jeremija hill (on the top of which is the tiny Orthodox church of St. Jeremija), and to the foot of the dominant mountain Sniježnica above Morinje. Of course, chestnut is not the only crop, there are also olives, but another botanical curiosity is connected to the chestnut from Kostanjica: due to the specific composition of the soil, the chestnut grows here at the lowest altitude in Europe! True, in connection with this claim, the people of Stoliv can stand up and protest (with reason!) because the chestnut tree grows right next to the coast there too. If they were not separated by only 330 meters of the Verige strait, Kostanjica and Stoliv would be neighbors - especially since they are on the same plane, as if according to a ruler. The reconciling difference is this: Stoliv is known for camellia (Camelia japonica), which especially thrives there because the soil from the chestnut forest is suitable for its composition, but the place is called Stoliv (see that) and is better known for olives and camellias than Kostanjica, although the latter is also known for olives and for growing camellias just as well! It sounds complicated (in the fight for a tourist brand), but it's simple: Stoliv has camellias, Kostanjica has chestnuts. The dispute is over! When someone wants to make fun of someone in the Gulf, he shows him his horns: an outstretched index finger and little finger. This is how the people of Stoliv show their overseas neighbors from Kostanjica. “We have the Camellia Festival, how about you? What do you have!?” Kostanjica does not have a festival in honor of the chestnut. Ok, they will get it in the years ahead, sometime in November, when the chestnuts are ripening, we want to believe. Until then, the information remains that in November, some Kostanji families prepare the ancient kotunjada, a chestnut cake. It will also be offered by those restaurants with the Bokeška kužina brand. What no one has ever pointed out, and what makes the information from www.montenegro.com exclusive, concerns the fact that Kostanjica is the absolute most fragrant place in the entire country (Montenegro)! How? Isn't there some rare, lesser-known fragrant plant growing in Kostanjica? Because if it were to succeed, would Kostanjica emit scents constantly, and not periodically? The answer is located just a few meters from the main road, in the middle of Kostanjica, and is embodied in the only coastal distillery of Mediterranean aromatic herbs! Even when you pass by the distillery in the off-season months, when the windows in the car are all closed, the ventilation system still misses something of the essence of liquid laurel, immortelle and kovil. It is really worth spending your summer in a place where one of today's expensive things - aromatherapy - is not charged additionally!

Kostanjica is additionally decorated with numerous small sandy beaches. Where the coast does not allow beaches, stone pontoons have been built, some with lighthouses, some without, some privately owned, some not. Sometimes pontes build mandrakes, brick dwellings for boats, in the soil of which (curiously again!) they are known to thrive and some shellfish (the very rare Gulf heartfish, Cardium edule) which would not even exist if there were not those stone coves inside the bay - mandrakes for boats. In Kostanjica, there are still cascades between the sea and the coastal road where campers can relax. Those guests who want solitude should definitely choose the uninhabited strip towards the Verige strait. Those particles of solitude are not easy to come by; very steep paths often lead from the main road to just a fraction of the coast. The only disturbance in those places can only come from the sea side, which does not disturb many lovers. It's summer. It is possible. Not infrequently, when the lovers want to take a break to see what else is around besides themselves, if they are masked, they often notice fishing nets, wire fishing trap devices placed in the sea. They were thrown from the coastal road at night by some locals. Ethics dictates that tourists only look at the types of fish caught with the tip (like during some kind of exhibition for free), never open the tip! With a mask above the water, everyone can enjoy a view from Kostanjica to Risno across the street, and to Perast, and to the extremely attractive two Peras islands, the artificial Gospa od Škrpjela and the natural island of Sveti Đorđe. Today's seasonal idyll of Kostanjica used to be fishing. And maritime. Talk about these topics with the hospitable natives.
