The Boka Shore Road

A flat one-lane shore road under Vrmac, past sea captains’ palaces, tiny churches and swimming jetties — the quietest old-Boka walk, from Kotor’s walls to the chestnut shore of Stoliv.

Da sapere

  • One-way walk: Blue Line’s Kotor municipal bus runs Kotor → Muo → Prčanj → Stoliv along this exact road (~30 min; pay the driver in cash, small notes; last return around 22:00, later in summer).
  • Much of the route shares a one-lane road with cars and has no continuous pavement — keep children close at the pinch points; not ideal for strollers despite being flat.
  • Long exposed stretches between Muo and Prčanj — carry water; swimming ladders and platforms line the whole Prčanj waterfront.
  • Come in late February–March for Stoliv’s camellia bloom; the Sv. Ilija feast climbs to Gornji Stoliv in late July.

Under Venice, Muo was Kotor’s fish larder — a single row of stone houses and dozens of private jetties that still look straight back at the floodlit walls.

Three identical Gothic windows face the sea from this 15th-century palace — legend says three sisters who loved the same sailor walled themselves in, each watching for his ship until the end.

The largest church in the Boka — 120 years in the building (1789–1909), in Korčula stone. Its treasury keeps the imperial honour flag of Ivo Vizin, the first South Slav to sail around the world.

Stoliv

Sailors brought camellia seeds home from Japan two centuries ago; every February the village blooms. The road ends among chestnut trees, with Perast and its two islets floating across the water.
