Bon à savoir

  • The flattest, most stroller-friendly walk on the coast — paved riva the whole way, with pine and park shade for most of it.
  • Kalardovo is ~3 km from Tivat’s bus stops: walk back along the riva, or take a taxi from the rank at Porto Montenegro.
  • Belane and Blue Flag Kalardovo are the swim stops; Kalardovo has showers, toilets and summer kids’ animators.
  • The Lastovska fešta fills Donja Lastva’s waterfront on 16 August (feast of Sv. Roko); expect aircraft noise near Kalardovo — the airport approach passes overhead.

The Austro-Hungarian navy founded its Arsenal here in 1889; today superyachts moor where warships were repaired. The P-821 Heroj — a submarine launched in secret in 1967 that spent 726 days underwater — is parked among them, and you can sit at its controls.

In 1892 Admiral von Sterneck ordered every warship commander to bring plants home from their voyages — the result is this park of 130-year-old giants. Beside it stands the 14th-century summer palace of Kotor’s Buća nobles, with its defensive tower.

A Blue Flag beach where the promenade fades into pine forest. Across the causeway lies Miholjska Prevlaka — seat of a bishopric since St Sava in 1219, until 1452, when more than seventy monks were poisoned with arsenic in their fish soup.
