The lower end of Mainski put is where the town's traffic sorts itself out: the bus station is fifty metres away, the coastal road passes just below, and the walk to Slovenska plaža and to the old town each take under fifteen minutes. For visitors without a car it is one of the more efficient places to sleep in Budva, since almost every organised excursion in the country either starts here or is reachable on a scheduled bus.
That matters because Montenegro's distances are short and its range is wide. Sveti Stefan is fifteen minutes down the coast; Kotor, Perast and the deep bay under an hour; Cetinje and Lovćen up the mountain road behind town; Ostrog monastery in its cliff face and the wetlands of Lake Skadar are both comfortable day trips; Ulcinj and Ada Bojana sit at the far southern end of the coast. Tivat airport is twenty kilometres away, Podgorica about sixty. Closer in, the reasons to stay put are the town beach, the lanes and Citadela inside the walls, and the promenade in the evening. Between trips, the surrounding streets have the markets, bakeries and grill restaurants that keep a longer stay affordable.
