Jaz is a different Budva altogether. Four and a half kilometres west of the Old Town, the beach fills a wide bay backed by a green meadow and low hills, with no boulevard behind it and no blocks of flats, just sand, shingle and the road down from the highway. The eastern end, under the hill, is the sheltered part: calmer water, shallow enough for children, and out of the wind on most summer days.
The meadow behind the beach is known for other reasons, having held some of the largest open-air concerts on the Adriatic, and in high summer part of it becomes a campsite. The rest of the year it is simply a field with sheep in it. Trsteno and Ploče lie further west along the same shore, while the Old Town, the marina and the restaurants of Slovenska plaža are ten minutes away by car or bus. Kotor's bay begins over the ridge to the north. Stay for sunset and the whole bay turns copper, which is why many guests stop bothering with the drive into town.
