IV Proleterske belongs to Budva's middle ground, a few streets back from the water where apartment blocks, pizzerias, bakeries and small markets do the everyday work of the town. The beach is roughly four hundred and fifty metres away, a flat walk most people make twice a day, and the green market, the best place to buy figs, tomatoes and cheese brought in from the Grbalj villages, is close by.
From this block the town unfolds in two directions. Downhill and left, Slovenska plaža runs for nearly two kilometres with its pine-shaded promenade, pedalos and beach bars. Downhill and right, the walls of the Old Town close around a grid of stone lanes, with the Citadela on the seaward corner and the pebble beach of Ričardova glava beneath it. Further on, past the cliff, Mogren's two coves offer deeper and clearer water. Budva also works as a base inland: the road to Cetinje and Lovćen climbs into the mountains within half an hour, and the ferry across Kotor Bay shortens the drive north.
