Bathing-water data for the Montenegrin coast
Every official bathing-water sampling on the Montenegrin coast since 2020, in files anyone can use: the date of each visit, the grade on the four-point EU scale, and the sea temperature read at the moment the sample was taken. No European bathing-water report covers Montenegro and the national monitor publishes its results only as a map, so as far as we can tell this is the only machine-readable record of this coast.

Take it
- Every sampling, all seasons (CSV)One row per official visit, back to the start of the record. The whole series.
- This season's samplings (CSV)The same shape, current season only — smaller, and updated as the visits happen.
- One row per beach (CSV)The atlas itself: shore facts, station, latest result and the season tally.
- Map data (GeoJSON)The same rows as points, ready to drop into a map.
- JSONThe atlas as an API response, with each beach's current-season samplings nested.
How the seasons compare
Every closed season the monitor holds, the whole coast at once. The season in progress is not here: it is incomplete by definition, and folding a half-finished season into a comparison of finished ones is how a trend gets manufactured out of a sampling calendar. It is in the downloads above.
| Season | Stations | Samplings | Excellent | Good | Sufficient | Poor | Jul–Aug mean |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 2020 | 30 | 270 | 89% | 7% | 4% | — | 24.2 °C |
| 2021 | 30 | 300 | 86% | 8% | 7% | — | 25.4 °C |
| 2022 | 30 | 301 | 89% | 7% | 5% | — | 24.1 °C |
| 2023 | 30 | 299 | 82% | 13% | 5% | <1% | 24.5 °C |
| 2024 | 32 | 319 | 83% | 10% | 7% | 1% | 24.2 °C |
| 2025 | 32 | 320 | 88% | 6% | 6% | — | 23.3 °C |
Shares are of all samplings that season, across every station. A season's total moves with the size of the monitoring network as well as with how often each station was visited — two stations joined in 2024. The July–August mean is over a fixed window for the same reason: a whole-season average would partly be measuring when the inspectors came.
What the columns mean
| beach | Permanent identifier for the beach. These keys never change, so they are safe to join on. |
|---|---|
| season | Bathing season the sampling belongs to, as a year. |
| sampled | Date of the official sampling visit, ISO 8601. |
| grade | excellent, good, sufficient or poor — the four-point EU scale. Taken from the monitor's numeric grade, never from the translated word. |
| seaTempC | Sea temperature in °C, read at the moment of sampling. Blank where none was recorded. |
| station | Name and id of the official monitoring station. The ids are stable across the whole period. |
| lat, lng | Position of the beach in WGS 84, not of the sampling point. |
Where it comes from, and what you may do with it
The samplings are the work of JP Morsko dobro, the public body that monitors Montenegro’s coast. It takes them roughly fortnightly through the bathing season and publishes them here: https://monitoring.morskodobro.me/
Two limits worth knowing. The monitor answers with an error for 2020 and earlier, so that is where the machine-readable record begins, not where the monitoring began. And the season in progress is read live at the moment you download, so two files fetched weeks apart will differ in those rows and only in those.
The shore facts we verify ourselves are published under CC BY 4.0: use them, chart them, rebuild them, credit us. The water results are the public body’s measurements — we assembled and republished them, we did not take them, and they should be credited to JP Morsko dobro.
