Obala is exactly what the name says, the shore road running the length of Djenovici a step from the water, houses on one side and swimming platforms on the other. A private stretch of shoreline is the local currency here: in a village whose two kilometres of coast are a patchwork of small pebble bays and concrete terraces, having your own ladder into the sea means never carrying a towel far. The water off this shore is deep, clean and clear, and by late morning the platform routine is in full effect, with coffee, cards, a swim and repeat.
Evenings belong to the waterfront. Konobas along this coast keep it simple and do it well: whatever came in that morning grilled whole with olive oil and parsley, black risotto, small fried fish, mussels from the bay in season, and local Krstac or Vranac by the carafe. Between meals the promenade links the village to Baosici and beyond, an easy flat walk under tamarisks and palms. Herceg Novi, with its markets, fortresses and the long Pet Danica seafront, is a short bus ride west, and excursion boats into the inner bay leave from the village shore right through the summer.
