The name belongs to the bridge — Djevojački most, the Maiden's Bridge, arching over the Plasnica, a mountain stream in the valley near Kolašin that supplied both the title and the setting for a Yugoslav film shot here in the 1960s. The surroundings are the classic Kolašin combination: fast, cold water, dense conifer and beech on the slopes, and the long ridgelines of Sinjajevina to the north and Bjelasica to the east closing off the horizon. Being close to the main road makes this an easy base for driving, and the Tara valley opens not far away.
Climate is what draws people to this valley in both directions of the year. The annual average sits around 7°C, with reliable snow cover from December and a short, bright summer. The Adriatic is only about 80 kilometres away as the crow flies, and the Morača basin funnels enough Mediterranean influence up through Lake Skadar and the Platije gorge to soften the edges — which in practice means skiing on Bjelasica in February and, in July, a drive to the coast of under three hours. Biogradska Gora National Park, its lake circuit and the high katun pastures are all within a short drive of this stretch of valley.
