Polje sits just outside the built-up part of Kolašin, on the flat valley ground its name describes — field. This is farming land more than resort land: hayfields cut twice a summer, small barns, wood stacked for winter, and the bulk of Bjelasica rising to the east. The valley floor catches morning light early and holds snow well into spring, and the walking starts at the edge of the meadow rather than after a drive.
Kolašin itself is a short distance away, easily covered by car or on foot in reasonable weather. The town is compact — a square, a market selling cheese, kajmak and honey from the surrounding katuns, a museum, ski rental shops, and the railway station on the Belgrade–Bar line that climbs spectacularly through the Morača canyon. Winter revolves around the two ski centres on Bjelasica, Kolašin 1450 and the newer, gondola-served Kolašin 1600. From late spring the attention shifts to Biogradska Gora National Park, half an hour north-east, where a circuit path runs around a glacial lake through primeval forest, and to the Tara canyon further north, where rafting trips launch daily through the summer. Local kitchens keep to trout, lamb and cornmeal, and are better for it.
