Sveta Petka is a residential pocket on the slope above the seafront, named for its small church and set back just far enough from the beach to stay cool in the afternoon. Around three hundred metres of downhill street separate it from the water, and the Old Town is roughly ten minutes on foot along the shore, so the walk into town becomes part of the evening rather than a journey.
The name of this corner points inland, to Podostrog and the Podmaine monastery on the terraces above Budva, where the Petrović bishops kept a summer residence and where the olive slopes still look much as they did. It is a short climb for a view over the whole bay, and the kind of detour most visitors skip. Down at sea level the day divides between the long shingle of Slovenska plaža, the deeper water at Mogren under the cliffs, and boats from the marina out to Sveti Nikola. Dinner tends to be unfussy: black risotto, grilled squid, a carafe of house wine on a terrace under vines.
