You can walk along the promenade along the seashore, all the way to Budva on one side, or to the old fishing village of Rafailovići on the other side.

About the area

The country a Montenegrin holiday happens in changes completely depending on which way you drive. From almost anywhere on the coast the sea is the default: mornings on pebble or sand, long lunches of grilled fish and olive oil, evenings on a waterfront that stays loud until late in Budva and Bečići and stays quiet in the bay villages around Herceg Novi, Igalo, Tivat and Kotor. Beach character varies more than the short distances suggest, the Bay of Kotor sheltered and flat, the Budva riviera open and sandy in places, the far south long, wide and windy.

Turn inland and the temperature falls with the altitude. Within a couple of hours of the coast lie Skadar Lake's reed channels and bird colonies, Cetinje's museums and old court, Ostrog Monastery cut into its rock face, and the Tara canyon, the deepest in Europe, with rafting through the summer months. Further north, Durmitor and Bjelasica carry proper winters, with skiing at Žabljak and Kolašin from December. Two or three of the crossings are memorable in their own right, particularly the serpentines above Kotor toward Njeguši and Lovćen, where the whole bay unfolds beneath you turn by turn.
