Kumbor lies on the Herceg Novi riviera at the point where the open Adriatic narrows into the Bay of Kotor, and this end of the village is its quieter, more domestic side: family houses with vine-shaded yards, a few shops and cafés, and the water a short flight of steps below the coast road. The beaches are small and unfussy, pebble and concrete strips broken up by little piers, with shallow entries that suit children and deep, clear water a few metres out. Mornings are for swimming before the sun gets high, and afternoons tend to end with coffee on a terrace watching boats come through the strait.
For all its village feel, Kumbor is well placed. Portonovi's marina and promenade are along the shore, good for an evening walk past the yachts even if you are not eating there, and Herceg Novi's old quarter, with the Kanli Kula fortress, its stepped lanes and the long Pet Danica seaside promenade, is a short ride down the coast road. Boats leave this stretch of coast for the Blue Cave, Mamula and the beaches of the Luštica peninsula. A bakery, a small market and konobas grilling fish and serving njeguški pršut are all within walking distance, which covers most of what a week here needs.
