About the area
The slope above Bečići beach is where the settlement actually lives. Streets wind up through olive groves and mandarin trees, past stone houses, newer villas and gardens that have been there far longer than the tourism, and nearly every terrace looks out over the bay. From up here the whole beach is laid out below — a long crescent of sand and fine shingle that once took a prize in Paris as Europe's most beautiful — and the walk down takes a matter of minutes, while the traffic and the music stay where they belong.
The area rewards moving around on foot. A coastal path leads north over the headland into Budva, whose walled old town, citadel and Mogren beach make an easy afternoon and a busy night; southward the promenade runs into Rafailovići for fish suppers by the water, and the road continues past Kamenovo and Pržno to the causeway view of Sveti Stefan. Inland, the mountain road climbs quickly to viewpoints over the whole Budva riviera. Local cooking on this stretch stays close to type: grilled fish, black risotto, lamb and veal under the sač, and olive oil pressed from the trees on these same slopes.
