Winter sets the rhythm in Žabljak. Snow usually settles on the plateau by December and can linger into April, and the town's two ski areas work at different tempos: Savin Kuk, the longer and steeper descent on the flank of the massif, and Javorovača, the gentle municipal slope where children and first-timers spend their mornings. Cross-country tracks are laid across the open plateau when conditions allow, and hire equipment and instructors are straightforward to arrange in town through the season.
The rest of the year the same terrain belongs to walkers. The road west out of town leads in under an hour on foot to Crno jezero, where a level circuit follows the shore beneath Međed and Crvena Greda; more committed routes climb from the Sedlo pass toward Bobotov Kuk, at 2,523 metres the high point of Durmitor. To the northeast the Tara has cut a canyon some 1,300 metres deep, crossed by the arches of the Đurđevića Tara bridge, and rafting trips run from the villages along it through spring and summer. Evenings back in town stay cool even in August — a jumper is worth packing whatever the coast is doing.
