The promenade is the spine of this part of the coast. It begins in Budva, runs the full length of the Bečići sand and finishes in Rafailovići, and for most of that distance the sea is one step away on one side while gardens, palms and hotel terraces line the other. Early morning belongs to swimmers and people walking dogs; by ten the loungers are out; after dark the same path becomes the evening promenade, which in Montenegro is a social ritual rather than exercise.
Head north and Budva's old town is about half an hour away — a compact stone quarter inside Venetian fortifications, with a citadel above the water and Mogren beach beyond the cliffs. Head south and the path ends among the fishing houses of Rafailovići, where konoba terraces sit almost on the waterline and the menu is whatever came in that morning. The beach in between is a single unbroken band of sand and fine gravel almost two kilometres long, wide enough that even in August there is room behind the rented rows. Along it you will find bakeries, a fruit and vegetable market, kiosks selling boat trips to Sveti Stefan and to Sveti Nikola island, and tamarisk shade for the hours when the sun is directly overhead.
