Meljine is a small bay a couple of kilometres east of Herceg Novi's old town, tucked in where the coastline bends and the water goes flat. Šetalište Pet Danica runs right along the front, separating the houses from their bathing places, and that promenade is the whole point of the address: it continues for kilometres in both directions with no road to cross, past Savina and Topla to the west and Zelenika to the east, and it stays busy from the early morning swimmers to the after-dinner crowd well past midnight in July.
The village itself is modest, a few cafés, a shop, the long white building of the old naval hospital the Austro-Hungarians left behind, and boats pulled up wherever there is room. Because this pocket of the bay is sheltered, the sea stays warm and glassy, which suits children and anyone who prefers swimming to sunbathing. For sightseeing you walk or take the local bus west into Herceg Novi for the fortresses, the market and the stepped lanes, or head east to the Kamenari ferry across the narrows, from which the inner bay opens up toward Perast and Kotor.
