Trg durmitorskih ratnika is the flat, open centre of Žabljak, the point everything else in town is measured from. The settlement grew here on the plateau as a market and staging post long before it became a mountain resort, and the square still works that way — shops, bakeries, cafés and the agencies selling rafting seats and jeep tours all face onto it or sit a street back. In summer the tables spill outside; in winter the snow is banked at the edges and the place feels smaller than it is.
What this location buys you is the ability to leave the car parked. The road to Crno jezero starts a short walk west and the lake itself is under an hour on foot; the Javorovača slope is on the northern edge of town; buses south toward Nikšić and Podgorica and north across the Tara leave from the centre. Day trips within easy reach include the Đurđevića Tara bridge, the viewpoints over the canyon and the drive around the massif by way of the Sedlo pass. It is a practical base rather than a scenic one, which for anyone planning to be out all day is exactly the point.
