The view from this side of Dobrota is the reason people build here. Across a kilometre of water, Prčanj and Stoliv sit on the far shore beneath the wooded ridge of Vrmac, and the bay narrows southwards to the point where Kotor's walls climb the rock in a jagged line. Ships come through slowly, the big liners passing close enough to read, and the light changes completely between the flat metallic calm of early morning and the deep blue that arrives once the sun drops behind the ridge.
Underneath the view, ordinary life is close at hand. The shore road runs the full length of Dobrota and doubles as a promenade for walking and cycling; ladders and concrete platforms give access to deep, clean water; small konobas along the way cook fish and mussels without ceremony. Kotor's Old Town is a short drive or a comfortable walk south and rewards an early start — the cathedral, the Maritime Museum, the stairs to San Giovanni fortress before the day heats up. Northwards, the road follows the bay to Orahovac and Perast, from where boats cross to the islet church of Our Lady of the Rocks.
