Each in our own words

Čanj

Čanj is the quiet option on the Bar riviera: a kilometre and more of mixed sand and pebble — the “pearl coast” for the way it shimmers — in a bay that the trains do not reach. The water tested Excellent at every point in August 2026. Its second act is Kraljičina plaža, the Queen’s Beach, walled in by rock and reached only from the sea; the boats leave from Čanj and the cove has its own pier.

Almost nothing about facilities, prices or lifeguards is published for Čanj and the bus is seasonal with no railway alternative; we hold no photographs of the beach itself, so the frames here show the neighbouring bays.

Sutomore

Sutomore is a beach with a town attached, and honest about it: a long, gently shelving strand of sand and fine gravel that suits children, concession blocks with free sand between them, toilets, showers and changing cabins, and a promenade of grills and cafés. The trains from Belgrade land here every July and the beach fills accordingly. For a family week on a budget it does the job; for quiet, Čanj is 9 km away.

From mid-morning in high summer the sand is the most crowded on the Bar coast and the road and railway sit right behind it; no lifeguard, first-aid or Blue Flag information is published for the strand.
