Canyoning is surely among the most exciting adventure and fun adrenaline activities that Montenegro has to offer. Passing through the river courses of the canyon, staying in wild nature, descending steep and smooth cliffs that have been formed for thousands of years, spectacular waterfalls, will give you an unreal feeling almost like from a fairy tale.

The canyons were mainly formed from limestone and granite, the slope of the canyon sides reaches 60°. The rocks through which the crystal turquoise water flows and the dense, bright green vegetation cannot be described in words. This activity is reduced to climbing through narrow passages, cascades, including descent techniques often with double ropes, as well as jumps and swimming in certain parts.

Canyoning is an increasingly popular extreme sport in the world, our country can boast of natural treasures and a large number of canyons where you can explore. The largest and most famous world canyon is in Arizona - Grand Canyon. The second deepest canyon in the world and the first in Europe is located in Montenegro and it is the Tara river canyon. The length of the Tara canyon is 78 kilometers, and the depth is up to 1300 m, the basin is 141 kilometers long and is considered the longest river basin in Montenegro. Tara river canyon has 80 larger caves. In the central part of Montenegro there is a canyon - Nevidio. The Nevidio canyon of the Komarnica river, which is only an hour away from Nikšić, is an attractive and increasingly popular tourist destination in Montenegro, especially for foreign tourists. A group of mountaineers from Nikšić first approached this canyon in 1965. Then the Grlja river canyon near Gusinje, extremely interesting for research and tours, is characterized by smooth cliffs up to twenty meters high at a short distance from each other.

Cijevna Canyon near Podgorica was discovered in 1886 and became popular after the research of the Italian botanist Antonio Baldacio. In Montenegro, there are many smaller canyons that also attract adventurers, such as the Škudra canyon near Kotor and the Bogutovski stream that flows into the Morača.

Canyons in Montenegro are mostly located in remote areas, and for an adventure through some of the canyons you will definitely need guides with navigation, wilderness skills and route/road knowledge.
