Meljine is a peaceful coastal settlement on the Herceg Novi riviera, set between Igalo and Zelenika just outside the town centre. Its defining landmark is the Lazaret, a historic complex begun by the Venetians in 1732 as a quarantine station and hospital guarding the entrance to the Bay of Kotor, later expanded under Austro-Hungarian rule. The handsome old buildings, with their imperial-era architecture and maritime past, still anchor the waterfront, and part of the complex has been restored as the five-star Lazure Hotel and Marina, with berths for visiting yachts and a smart seafront promenade.

Meljine is a settlement immediately east of Herceg Novi, effectively a continuation of the town along the northern shore of the Bay of Kotor. It sits between the Savina area and Zelenika, about 2 km from the Herceg Novi old town.
Meljine is best known for its hospital, which grew from an Austro-Hungarian naval infirmary and long served as a military hospital, and for its position on the seafront promenade a short walk from the Savina monastery.
Savina sits on the wooded slope between Meljine and Herceg Novi, so it is an easy walk from either. The complex holds two churches of the Dormition and a smaller medieval one, along with a rich treasury, set among cypresses above the bay.
Yes, pebble beaches and bathing platforms strung along the promenade, sheltered and calm. They are ordinary local beaches rather than resort ones, which means they stay quieter than Igalo even in August.
Easily. The seafront promenade runs the whole way, so the old town is around 25 to 30 minutes on foot at sea level, with the Savina monastery on the slope just above the route. Buses run frequently if you would rather ride.
It works well for travellers who want Herceg Novi's old town within walking distance but quieter, cheaper lodging. Expect private apartments rather than hotels, everyday konobas and shops, and the bay directly across the road.
