Muo faces Kotor across the water, a single row of stone houses squeezed between the coast road and the sea in what was, and to some extent still is, a fishing village. Small wooden boats are tied to the ponte, the low stone piers that double as sunbathing platforms, and the sea comes right up to the garden walls. The view is the reason people stay here: the entire amphitheatre of Kotor, its fortifications tracking up the mountain behind it, floodlit after dark and reflected in flat water.
Because this shore looks east, the evening light lands on the far side of the bay while Muo itself falls into shade, which is a welcome order of events in July. Kotor's gates are about a kilometre and a half around the head of the bay, walkable if you do not mind the road, quick by car or boat. Kayaks are the local way to explore: the shoreline runs south past Prčanj towards Stoliv with almost no traffic on the water, and there are inlets and old jetties to stop at along the way.
