Hotel Danica in Petrovci

Hotel Danica has welcomed guests in Petrovac since July 2001, sitting beside a pine forest along a walking path just 100 meters from the sea. About the area

Ulica Nika Anđuša runs behind the pine belt that shades one end of Petrovac's bay, a hundred metres back from the water. Those trees are part of why the town has kept its character: they screen the buildings from the sand, keep the air resinous through hot afternoons, and give the promenade a green edge along most of its length. Step out of them and you are on the reddish-sand beach, with the two islets, Katič and Sveta Nedjelja, sitting a few hundred metres offshore.

Small boats run out to them in summer and further along the coast to coves with no road: Drobni Pijesak, the shingle at Buljarica, the rocks below Reževići. Back in town the day settles into beach, long lunch and a walk to the fort at the far end of the sand, whose courtyard becomes a bar in the evening. Petrovac stays a working small town off-season, with a market and a bus stand a few minutes inland, and it makes a sane base for driving — Sveti Stefan and Budva to the north, Bar's ruined medieval town and the Skadar Lake road to the south, Ostrog monastery a couple of hours into the mountains.
