Mainski put climbs away from the seafront into Budva's quieter residential slope, and the change is immediate: gardens instead of car parks, oleander and fig over the walls, and enough elevation that the evening air moves. The road takes its name from Maine, the old parish behind the town, and it leads up to the Podmaine monastery, a walled complex of stone chapels and cypresses where Montenegro's prince-bishops once stayed and where the view runs the length of the Budva bay. It is a short, steep walk and one of the few genuinely calm places inside the town boundary in August.
Downhill, Slovenska plaza is about ten minutes away and the Old Town about fifteen, both easy going there and honest work coming back. That balance suits people who want the beach and the restaurants but would rather sleep somewhere with a garden around it. The neighbourhood has its own bakeries and small markets, so daily shopping does not mean going into the centre. Beyond Budva, the coastal road south reaches Sveti Stefan in twenty minutes, and the inland turn climbs toward Cetinje and Lovcen through hairpins that open onto the whole riviera, best driven in the hour before sunset.
