Kalimanj is Tivat's working harbour — the one with fishing boats and local moorings rather than superyachts — and the shore either side of it holds the town's easiest swimming. The beach here is sand and fine shingle, unusual for the Boka, shallow a long way out and sheltered by the ring of mountains around the bay, which keeps the water flat on most summer days. A cluster of sports grounds sits immediately behind: courts for tennis, basketball, handball and volleyball, plus the indoor hall that has made Tivat a winter training base for clubs from around the region.
From the harbour the promenade runs west into the centre in about ten minutes, past the market and the park and on to the Porto Montenegro quays, and east toward Kalardovo and the sand spit linking the mainland to Ostrvo cvijeća and its monastery. The airport is a couple of kilometres inland — close enough for very short transfers, and the reason this side of town suits late arrivals. Beyond it, the Luštica road leads to olive villages and the beaches at Plavi Horizonti and Trašte, while Kotor, Perast and the boats to Our Lady of the Rocks are twenty minutes north.
