Drijenak is one of the small settlements scattered on the slopes around Kolašin, where the town's grid dissolves into gravel lanes, orchards and pasture. Houses here look across the valley at the ridgelines of Bjelasica and Sinjajevina, and the soundtrack is livestock bells and, after dark, very little. This is the Kolašin most visitors drive past on their way to the lifts, and it rewards anyone who slows down: field paths that turn into forest tracks, wild strawberries and blueberries on the margins in July, and neighbours who still make their own cheese.
The centre of Kolašin is a couple of kilometres off, close enough for dinner in a konoba — trout, lamb from under the sač, kačamak with kajmak — and for the practicalities of ski hire and the market. Bjelasica's two ski areas are a short drive up the valley and hold snow deep into spring. In the green months the region's set pieces are all within an hour: the lake walk in Biogradska Gora National Park, rafting on the UNESCO-protected Tara, the frescoed church at Morača Monastery down the gorge road, and the high katun pastures where families still spend the whole summer with their herds.
