Vrijes is one of the residential pockets on the flat ground between Tivat's centre and the airport — streets of family houses and small blocks, gardens, parking at the kerb, and none of the summer noise of the waterfront. The sea is a walk of well under a kilometre, coming out on the shoreline near Kalimanj, where the fishing harbour, the sand-and-shingle beach and the sports grounds are. The runway is closer still, which makes this an easy address for short trips and late flights, and the terminal is small enough that the walk to it is genuinely a walk.
For everything else, Tivat's centre is fifteen to twenty minutes on foot: the green market, supermarkets, the town park, and the promenade that runs on to Porto Montenegro's pontoons and waterfront restaurants. East along the shore, a sandy neck leads out to Ostrvo cvijeća and its monastery among the pines; south, the road past the Solila salt pans opens onto the Luštica peninsula, its olive villages and the beach at Plavi Horizonti. Kotor is twenty minutes by car and Budva about twenty-five, so day trips do not eat the whole day.
