Ada Bojana
A triangular island of fine sand at the mouth of the Bojana, about 3 km of open beach with a signposted naturist section, kite schools and fish restaurants on stilts over the river.
Our verdict
Ada Bojana is three coasts in one: the Adriatic side with waves and a wide, gently shelving sandy beach; the river arms, calm and warm, lined with wooden restaurants on piles; and a resort that has been naturist since 1973. Textile bathers have their own well-marked stretch. Come for the kites on an afternoon thermal, the fish pulled from the river that morning, and the slowest evenings on the Montenegrin coast.

Questions
- Do I have to be naked on Ada Bojana?
- No. Part of the island is a naturist section — one of the Mediterranean’s first, opened in 1973 — and it is clearly signposted. The textile beach is separate and well marked. Respect whichever side you are on.
- How did the island form?
- In 1858 the merchant ship Merito sank at the mouth of the Bojana. River sediment banked against the wreck and two small islets beside it, and within decades the current had built a triangular island of roughly 4.8–5 km², barely three metres above the water.
- Is there an entrance fee?
- The bridge is free. Our guide notes a small daily parking fee of a few euros in high season and a modest fee at some access points or the beach-club zone; the 25-best list quotes €3–5 per vehicle in summer. Loungers are €10–20 a set.
