About the area
The beach in front of you is the reason Bečići has a name outside Montenegro. Its 1,950 metres of sand and fine shingle won a Golden Palm in Paris as Europe's most attractive beach, and the bay it fills is open enough to catch the afternoon light yet sheltered enough that the water is usually calm. In season the shoreline works hard: parasol rows, beach bars, paddleboards, jet skis, parascending boats towing arcs across the bay, and a steady traffic of small craft heading for the coves further south. Out of season it belongs to walkers and to the swimmers who keep going through November.
The coast either side repays a short trip. Two kilometres north, Budva's old town sits behind its sea walls with a citadel, three churches in one small square, and a cliff path curling round to the twin coves of Mogren. Five kilometres south lies Sveti Stefan, the fortified fishing islet tied to the mainland by a sand spit; the viewpoint above the road costs nothing and is best in the hour before sunset. Between them are Pržno, Kamenovo and Rafailovići, each a different mix of pebble, pine and konoba. Inland the road climbs to Lovćen national park and Cetinje, an hour of hairpins and steadily widening views over the Adriatic.
