Orahovac, Montenegro Orahovac is an idyllic village tucked deep into the Bay of Boka Kotorska and isolated with springs of drinking water, 10 km from Kotor.

If the bay of Boka Kotorska had not penetrated so deeply into the land, the picturesque Orahovac would be as far from the sea as e.g. Cetinje, or Rijeka Crnojevića (see Skadar lake, Montenegro). But, thanks to geography, Orahovac is still a coastal place! It is located 10 km north of Kotor, towards Perast (see that). In the past, it was physically separated from the neighboring town of Ljuta by the bed of the short river Ljuta, until the construction of the bridge through which the Adriatic highway passed. Orahovac is one of the few towns that has never had a problem with a lack of drinking water, because it is abundant. Today, the spring of Ercegovina is captured and abundantly supplies Perast and other places along the coast. Even when viewed from the sea or the land, Orahovac promises the guest an emphatic peace. The settlement is far enough from the tourist centers that it has not become a confluence of seasonal crowds over time. Here you can clearly hear the sounds of summer. Once a settlement of hard-working fishermen, Orahovac is increasingly turning to tourism. It is located in a coastal forest of old oaks, the oldest of which remember the Baroque era, which means where they sprouted 300 years ago. In the past, the place has produced many sea captains. Only in the second half of the 19th century. it had a fleet of about 30 ships. Today, the coast where all those sailing ships docked is dominated by a tourist complex composed exclusively of restored old stone palaces. Above the settlement, the Orthodox Church of St. Đorđa was built on a rock, and on the site of an even older one. It is painted with frescoes from the 15th and 16th centuries. If we ignore the curious new settlement that has sprung up in the immediate vicinity of the church in recent years (with a truly privileged view of the Bay of Kotor), it is worth pointing out what the other guides ignore: the ease of reaching the surrounding peaks, above all the one on which, between Perast and Orahovac, there is an old Austro-Hungarian border (then with Montenegro) fortification. At about 45 minutes of strenuous walking (light hiking!), that fort differs from other Austro-Hungarian ones in that it is not covered with a stone vault (like on the Vrmac hill above Kotor, across from Orahovac), but it resembles some kind of old town, with fortifications around a real mini-village, with houses inside. Without roofs today, of course. On the way to Perast, literally half a meter along the main road, there is the famous - Bajo tower. It is a modest one-story stone building with a rich past. It was named after the celebrated historical hero Bajo Pivljanin, from the village of Runice in Piva (Montenegro). Bajo built a tower in Boka Kotorska, between Orahovac and Dražina Vrt, from where he attacked Turkish caravans in Montenegro as if from some kind of guerilla base, and at the head of a band of robbers. He also defended Perast and Kotor, and cities in Dalmatia and Herzegovina from the Turks. When in 1685 the Pasha of Skadar set out with his army to enslave Montenegro, Bajo Pivljanin found himself on the side of the Montenegrins. He was killed near Cetinje, in the battle on Vrtijeljka. Today, the beach known as Bajova kula is one of the more famous tourist bathing spots in Kotor. The pebbly beach is completely overgrown with aromatic laurel forest. At night, fishermen love it, because the positions under the Bay tower are loved by the fish too! Even from Kotor and Mulo, fishermen come here at night, and they always return home full of quality catch. Not a few tens of meters from the beach towards Orahovac, there is a shellfish farm (mussels, mussels, Mytilus galloprovincialis). If you weren't lucky with your scrubbing hands, buy some delicious clams! They are full of meat. Summertime without fruit from the sea is inadmissible to be immortalized on camera. Let's go further, towards Perast. Kilometer. And stop! There, the old houses of the Dražin Vrt settlement loom over the coast, and they themselves look like a garden - to the extent that the settlement neatly arranged its houses reflected in the mirror of the sea. And there you can buy cultured quality mussel shells. And honey. The typicality of this mini-settlement with only a few dozen houses is reflected in the fact that most of the names of famous captains come from Dražina Vrt or Draživrt. All - from the maritime family Vukasović.From Draživrt to Perast, the highway stretches for several kilometers, unattractive kilometers for many motorized passers-by. But those kilometers are not! They are by no means uninteresting, as they are inhabited only by rocks on the right - and wild pomegranate and wild fig bushes on the left, coastal side. Namely, these are absolutely the only places on the entire 50-km long route Kotor - Herceg Novi, where one-time nudists can go down one of the steep paths to the rocky coast, rest, and swim in the crystal clear sea, without being disturbed by anyone. Why did we say: briefly? Why are there so many fans of this rare, no more than 2 km long deserted paradise.
