Forte Mare & the Old Town

The promenade passes beneath the lower fortress, which grew around the medieval town’s seaward strongpoint and was repeatedly rebuilt. Stone steps climb to Kanli Kula and the Old Town squares. The two forts are not interchangeable viewpoints, and the documented fabric is worth separating from the romantic siege stories.
