Savina

The 200-metre pebble-and-concrete shore on the Pet Danica promenade below Savina monastery, twenty minutes’ walk east of Herceg Novi’s old town.

Our verdict

Savina is a promenade beach rather than a bay: 200 m of pebble and concrete platforms along the Šetalište 5 Danica where it passes below the monastery wood, with loungers at €10, a beach bar and restaurants within reach, and the view straight across the water to Luštica. Its point is the combination — a swim, then the climb through the pines to the three churches of Savina, or the other way round. Herceg Novi’s own swimmers use it; the boat crowds do not.

  • Concrete edges and ladders rather than a gradual entry along much of the shore — check the depth before you jump
  • The promenade is the beach’s back wall: walkers and cyclists pass a metre behind your towel
  • Every approach from the monastery above involves gradients and steps, and the shore is unlit away from the promenade lamps

How do I get to Savina beach from Herceg Novi?
Walk east along the Pet Danica promenade from the old town, about 20 minutes and flat, or take a Blue Line bus along the coast road. By car it is 1 km, but the promenade is the better way in.
How far is the monastery from the beach?
Five minutes uphill, through the Savinska Dubrava pines — gradients and steps all the way. The monastery is open sunrise to sunset; cover shoulders and knees.
Is Savina beach on the Pet Danica walk?
Yes — the promenade runs along the water below the monastery wood, between the Forte Mare stop in Herceg Novi and Meljine, 1.2 km further east.
