Budva Riviera Beaches

1. Jaz Beach

2. Mogren Beach

The island has three distinct coasts: the Adriatic side (open sea, waves, wide sandy beach), the river side (calm, warm water, traditional wooden fishermen's restaurants on stilts), and the inner lagoon (sheltered, shallow). The river-side restaurants — serving fish pulled from the water that morning — are a highlight of any Montenegro trip.

The island itself is a newcomer by geological standards. In 1858 a merchant sailing ship, the Merito, sank at the mouth of the Bojana, and the river's sediment began banking up against the wreck and two small islets beside it. Within decades the current had built a triangular island of roughly five square kilometers — brand-new land on a very old coast, still rising barely three meters above the water.
