Bobotov Kuk
Our verdict
Durmitor’s best-known summit and the one most people mean when they say they climbed a mountain in Montenegro. The last section is a scramble on limestone with chains in places, and the view from the top covers the whole plateau and the Tara canyon behind it.
The honest part
It is very often called the highest point in Montenegro. It is not — Zla Kolata in Prokletije is twelve metres higher, and two other summits on that ridge are higher again. Bobotov Kuk is the highest point of the Durmitor massif, which is a different claim and the one worth making.
When to come
Late June to early October. The record at this elevation shows a 30 cm base on roughly a third of April days and it is usually gone by mid-May, but gullies hold snow much later.

When the snow lies
Bobotov Kuk is usually clear of a 30 cm base from May to Nov. Outside that window, plan for snow on the ground.
Across the record the ground came reliably under 5 cm around April 20 and went back under snow around November 28. Those are medians of eleven years, not a promise about this one.
