1. Vivid colors of nature

Montenegro abounds in intense green colors of nature and blue shades of the sea.  In February, when nature awakens in Montenegro, bright yellow permeates through the lush vegetation and cheers up the winter dullness with its concentrated Mimosa flower.

In the same period, the cyclamen Camellia decorates the thick bushes and trees, and in the spring a rhapsody of purple shades of Wisteria, Magnolia and Hydrangea is visible.

Nowhere will you see denser and more diverse vegetation on a smaller area than in Montenegro. According to research data, Montenegro is extremely rich in plant species; 2,833 plant species and subspecies live in this area, and it is home to 22 unique plants that are found nowhere else in the world except in Montenegro.

2. Old fortresses and cities

Montenegro is proud of its medieval architecture, and numerous fortresses, castles, churches, monasteries and old abandoned places represent historical monuments that have stood the test of time for centuries.

Lesser known, unusual and exciting locations that will convey to you the spirit of the times of rulers and conquerors and evoke the way of life centuries ago are: Forte Mare Fortress (HN), Žljebi staro selo (HN), Mogren Fortress (Budva), Vrmac Fortress (Tivat-Kotor), 

Bedem Fortress (Nikšić), Grmožur Fortress (Bar), Lesendro Fortress (Bar), Ancient Roman City of Dioclea (Duklja) PG. These and similar buildings, which you can come across at every turn in Montenegro, are key to understanding the roots of Montenegrin culture.

3. Numerous festivals

With over 50 festivals and events a year, Montenegro has an affinity for good and unique entertainment with quality content throughout the year.

In Montenegro, there are festivals for everything and anything, from the Padešpanja Festival to holidays that celebrate flowers, such as Camellia and Mimosa days, a film festival, etc. However, the most popular music festivals are during the summer months: Sea Dance, Lake fest, Bedem fest, Southern Soul Festival, Guitar Art Summer Fest, Jazz festival and Refresh.

In 2019, Sea Dance hosted world music stars David Guetta and Robin Schulz.

4. Cats everywhere

I believe that one of the top reasons for some people to visit Montenegro is the spontaneous presence of cats.

In Montenegro, cats walk freely on sidewalks, streets and parks. Perhaps this attitude towards cats is unusual for many people outside the borders of Montenegro, but there are also those who find this concept of coexistence with cats without inhibitions extremely interesting and as such enough to be one of the main reasons to come to Montenegro. Cats are everywhere.

They are especially looked after in Kotor, and a museum dedicated to them has been opened in that city.

6. Over 20 lakes

Montenegrin lakes are magnificent and should be explored. The largest is Lake Skadar,

and the Black, Biograd and Plav lakes stand out with their unique natural beauty.

On the shores of these lakes, you can still enjoy the untamed nature that Montenegro is known for.

5. Unique beaches

There is no shortage of beautiful beaches in Montenegro. I can say this with confidence because I was born in a seaside town. For me, the beach is home, anywhere and everywhere.

If you imagine beaches in Montenegro, you probably thought of Ada Bojana, Jaz or Sveti Stefan.

In addition to those widely known beaches, Montenegro has given birth to hundreds of pleasant summer havens scattered along the 293 km long Montenegrin coast.

7. Favorable prices

Montenegro, as a tourist destination, is much cheaper than most countries of southern and western Europe.

With half the prices of other European destinations, Montenegro offers a variety of services and accommodation where you can enjoy private accommodation, mountain or seaside villas.

And on top of affordable accommodation, every day you can have fantastic gastronomic experiences for an average of around 20Eur per person.
