Djurdjevića Tara

The Đurđevića Tara Bridge is one of Montenegro's most iconic landmarks, carrying the road across the Tara River Canyon at a height of 172 metres. Built between 1937 and 1940 to a design by the engineer Mijat Trojanović, this elegant concrete arch bridge stretches 365 metres on five spans, the largest of them 116 metres across - at the time the biggest vehicular concrete arch in Europe. Its proportions still look modern: a pale, spare line drawn over a gorge of dark forest and grey limestone.
