For some time now, the so-called active vacation has been very popular in world tourism, the offer of this type also includes hiking with all that this sport entails. Accordingly, the strongest tourist organizations emphasize destinations adequate to that tourist trend as jewels of their offer.

As a country that aspires to play a significant role on the European tourist map and that is declaratively committed to sustainable or eco-tourism, Montenegro must follow the trends. In this context, the recent visit of fifty Greek mountaineers took place, who spent ten days visiting Boka Kotorska, Njeguše and Durmitor, as a prelude to the consultation "Mountaineering and Tourism" organized by the Mountaineering Association of Montenegro at the initiative of PD Subra. The intention of this consultation is for the tourism industry of Montenegro to include in its offer the wonderful natural resources that our country has, which fortunately for us are relatively preserved and can be and are one of the rare attractions. This is confirmed by the impressions of mountaineers from Greece, who were actually the first tourists of their kind who came to Montenegro in an organized manner. We will try to use what we have with the help of the tourist representatives and combine the pleasant and the useful, and that is what we presented at this meeting. Bearing in mind the expertise of the participants in this consultation and the preliminary agreements that have been reached, there are great chances that some plans will be implemented in the near future, but we will try to make it happen at the level of the entire country and on a much larger scale,'' said Brano Perovic, president of the Mountaineering Association of Montenegro, adding that the organization has already prepared a Mountaineering Guide through Montenegro, which will soon be published, and in which all important mountains of our country and will represent an exceptional guidebook for both domestic nature lovers and all tourists.

In addition, the Mountaineering Association of Montenegro, along with the Greens, is gradually getting involved in the concept of sustainable development proposed to Montenegro by UNDP, and it will soon be discussed at the highest levels in the country, and our participation is not only verbal, but also with a concrete project - 7 days in the Montenegrin mountains, which starts in the Kucki mountains and ends in Žabljak. Currently, one of the countries that is talked about a lot is Costa Rica, which has accepted and implemented a sustainable development project, i.e. tourism, which brought her very good income, concluded Perovic. Of course, in order for this initiative and idea to be fully implemented, apart from mountaineers, many other entities are needed, primarily tourist workers who would enrich the offers of their organizations in this way. That this whole idea has found fertile ground is also confirmed by the presence of representatives of tourism from Dubrovnik, Kotor and Herceg Novi at the consultation, and their impressions inspire optimism already at the start of the project implementation: "I am delighted with what I heard at this meeting and the expertise of the people who attended it.

My only regret is that there was no one from the Ministry of Tourism or Environmental Protection, because the things highlighted here deserve the attention of the entire tourism industry. This offers what is missing in Montenegro, and which is a trend in the world - active vacations and the richest non-boarding offer for which we have exceptional potential, so that with small investments you can get a lot. We in the tourist association in Kotor have already made an agreement with PD Subra and expanded our offer, although it is still modest and we should strive to create a complete joint regional project, because by acting together, Boka and the entire region can compete much better on the tourist market,'' commented Rade Coso, director of the Kotor Tourist Center.

Of course, a project like this could not happen without a man who is difficult to classify separately between mountaineers and tourist workers, Željko Franic, the fifty-three-year-old owner of the tourist agency DAS from Dubrovnik, who, as he says, has been hiking for fifty years because his father brought him to Orjen for the first time when he was only three years old, and since then he has been in love with that mountain and mountaineering:'' I set out to turn Orjen into something that represents the future in tourism. We have already started with the jeep safari program, albeit sporadically, and from May 15 we will start with the complete offer. They will come daily from Dubrovnik and from Boka to Vrbanj in two groups by minibuses and jeeps, mountain walks and other accompanying programs will be organized. Eco-food will be used explicitly, which will be bought directly from the farmers in Vrbanja and Kruševice, where there are still houses with a hearth in the middle of the house, which is also an attraction. My father built the Dubrovnik Mountain Home on Vrbanja and I really adore this mountain and my wish is to enable those people who live there to use what they have in the best possible way. The only thing that worries me in all of this is the possibility of obtaining a concession in order to somehow protect all legal tourist workers from the eventual appearance of some unregistered providers of similar services,'' Franic said.
