Bogetići

Bogetici is on the main road between Podgorica and Niksic, in the Niksic municipality, where the Bjelopavlici valley narrows and the ground starts to climb toward the Ostroska Greda ridge. Both cities are a short drive away.

Because the turning for Ostrog is here. The monastery, built into a cliff face high above the valley, is the most visited pilgrimage site in Montenegro and draws hundreds of thousands of people a year from across the Balkans and beyond.

A switchback climb from the village to the upper monastery, and one of the more memorable short drives in the country — the whole Bjelopavlici plain opens out below at every bend. It is narrow, so take it slowly.

Yes. The pilgrim traffic has given the village more roadside life than its size would otherwise support: cafes, grill restaurants and small guesthouses. The settlement itself has stayed rural — stone houses, gardens, vines on the lower slopes.

It suits anyone visiting Ostrog who would rather sleep at the foot of the mountain than in Podgorica or Niksic, and it makes an early start at the monastery straightforward, which matters more than anything else in summer.

Spring and autumn are the most comfortable for the climb. The monastery is busiest in July and August and around major feast days, when arriving early makes a considerable difference to the experience.
